You’ve now decided to go travel to volunteer. Preparing to go is more than checking off list items or what to pack. It involves cognitively preparing for entire traveling volunteer experience. But how do you cognitively prepare for the project or program you will be working with? The culture? The location? The getting there, being there, and returning from there all in one piece?
According to dictionary.com, the word cognition may be defined as an individual’s concern “with the act or process of knowing, perceiving, etc.” Within the traveling to volunteer context, The Traveling Volunteer defines cognitive preparedness as “how a pre-trip volunteer prepares themselves to handle and respond to potential situations through possible scenarios.”
